Potential Funding for Green Community Spaces

This document sets out the potential funding available to community and voluntary organisations for green community space projects including food growing or community orchards plans. It identifies the different grant schemes available and open to local groups, green spaces, allotment organisations or trusts, and also where to go to get help when looking for funding. Of those organisations listed as sources for further funding information, Idox's GRANTfinder funding product is one of them.

Scotland's Renewables Revolution

The 2020 Routemap for Renewable Energy in Scotland is an update and extension to the Scottish Renewables Action Plan 2009. The original Renewables action plan set out short-term actions towards the delivery of 2020 targets for renewable energy.

This updated and expanded Routemap sets new targets to generate 100% of Scotland's electricity needs from renewables by 2020, 30% of overall energy demand from renewables by 2020, and to deliver 500 MW of community and locally-owned renewable energy by 2020. The plan outlines a commitment to develop strategies for microgeneration and agri-renewables, and pledges to work with investors to create a Green Equity Fund to support community renewable projects.

The action plan may be viewed on the Scottish Government website.

Microgeneration Strategy Published

The Government has published its first Microgeneration Strategy. It forms part of the measures the Government is taking to move to a low carbon green economy.

As the microgeneration sector develops, the Government is providing financial incentives such as the Feed-in Tariff and Renewable Heat Incentive, to support the growth of local small-scale renewable energy generation. However, there are a number of non-financial barriers to microgeneration and the Strategy sets out actions to tackle these barriers and who will do what and by when.

The Strategy will help bring small-scale renewable technologies into homes, businesses and communities across England.

The Strategy may be viewed on DECC's website.
